Release date: 2026-08-21 17:00 | Malaysia Community News

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) continues its initiative to provide a platform that nurtures appreciation for Malaysian arts and culture. Following the successful presentations of Mek Mulung Putera Cahaya Bulan, Randai Mudo Pak Belalang, Jit Sin High School’s Chinese Orchestra, Mistik Pura Masyrik, Temple Of Fine Arts and most recently, Mak Yong Shakespeare: The Comedy Of Errors, audiences will now be treated to a performance themed A Dance Spectacular on Saturday, 5 September 2026 at 8.00 pm.

As an active cultural hub, DFP is committed to offer diversity in its performances, particularly in the arts and culture, for all segments of society. This performance is also aligned with DFP’s corporate social responsibility with an objective to preserve the nation’s heritage.

Witness the dynamic combination of two renowned local groups presenting diverse dance offerings that will be a deep resonant reflection on tradition and history on Malaysia in motion.

The first half of the performance will feature ASK Dance Company presenting Pearl of the Orient, a captivating Chinese dance that explores the journey of cultural traditions across time and geography. Inspired by the rich diversity of the dance heritage, the showcase will trace the movement of culture from China to Malaysia (then Malaya) reflecting how traditions are adapted and reimagined within new environments. Through vibrant collection of dance works, audience will witness movement vocabularies rooted in ethnic traditions, folk practices, community rituals and historical narratives that shaped the Chinese cultural expression. Audience will be enthralled by the dynamic choreography, evocative music and striking visual imagery through spellbinding dance structures: Spirit of the Fire Horse, Dai Dance, Sword Dance, Tin Mining Dance, Mahjong Dance and culminated with a joyous celebration consisting of Lion Dance and Chopstick Dance, to be presented by approximately 17 dancers on stage.

After the intermission, about 10 dancers from Dua Space Dance Theatre will take centrestage to present Passage Into The Unknown: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, a specially curated contemporary dance work that contemplates our humble existence within the vast grandeur of nature. Drawing inspiration from the four energies, this performance explores how they reflect human spirit and offer enduring insight for navigating uncertainty. Blending the refined aesthetics of traditional Chinese dance with the expressive freedom of contemporary movements, the choreography offers fresh and embodied interpretations of Chinese wisdom. Each gesture is a vessel of ancestral philosophy but combined with the realities of our modern world. This showcase is a poetic reflection of how the four elemental forces can guide us to live with courage and compassion.
