“Midlife, Sing & Shine!4 ” Overseas Recruitment in Full Swing as Malaysian Contestants Reflect on Their Journey

The Overseas Recruitment campaign for Midlife, Sing & Shine! 4 is currently in full swing. Representing Malaysia from the previous season Midlife, Sing & Shine! 3, contestants Rax Teh , Catherine Ho,Andy Lau and Alan Seow have been actively participating in promotional activities across various media platforms. Recently, the four singers made a special joint appearance on the local entertainment 8 E-News  where they shared behind-the-scenes stories and personal reflections from their time in the competition with host Minsley.

Speaking about his experience, Rax Teh recalled,“It was my first time ever performing on a stage in Hong Kong, and I was incredibly emotional. Stepping onto the iconic TVB stage—a dream I’ve had since childhood—was surreal. I performed Tong Hua Shun and received five lights from the judges, and then, to my astonishment, some Hong Kong fans even started a fan club for me. It all felt like a dream come true.”

Catherine Ho  added, “That was also my first time competing in Hong Kong, and I was extremely nervous. I still remember during the Singapore-Malaysia auditions, I accidentally sang two extra lines due to nerves. Thankfully, the judges still allowed me to advance—I’m really grateful for that.”

Andy Lau shared his excitement, “It was not only my first time singing in Hong Kong, but also my first time ever setting foot in the city. It looked just like what I had seen on TV. I was the very first contestant to perform in the first episode, which made the experience even more unforgettable.”

Alan Seow chimed in with a laugh, “Like Andy,  Midlife, Sing & Shine! 3 was my first time in Hong Kong too. I remember walking into the TVB studio with my mouth wide open—it was like stepping into my childhood memories. Seeing the sets and TVB stars up close was simply mind-blowing.”

When asked how they decided to join the competition, each contestant had their own story.

Rax admitted,“I actually submitted my audition video just five minutes before the deadline. I was hesitant and hadn’t prepared much at all. But surprisingly, I made it pretty far. It just shows—you shouldn’t overthink it. Sometimes, you just need to take that leap.” Catherine shared, “I never really planned on joining. I was working at the time when my brother encouraged me to give it a shot on a bigger stage. He even offered to sign up with me, so I thought, ‘Why not try and see how far I can go?’ It was a very unexpected journey.” Andy explained, “I had been competing in local singing contests before, but this was my first time stepping onto a larger platform. My mentor encouraged me to go for it, and I’m grateful for the experience I’ve gained.” Alan became emotional as he recalled, “Before the competition, I was under a lot of pressure because my mother was ill and I was juggling hospital visits with rehearsals. I still remember after performing my first song, I was interviewed and just broke down in tears. I rarely cry, but that moment felt like an emotional release.”

All four contestants agreed that participating in Midlife, Sing & Shine! 3 was a transformative experience—one that helped them grow vocally, earn the respect of professional judges, and gain loyal fans.

Recently, Andy and Alan held a successful Double A Live Show in Malaysia and are planning a performance in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Rax is set to return to the TVB stage in July for a special Midlife, Sing & Shine! 3 concert at the Kai Tak Arena.
